The most awesome place we've ever stayed!

We had not even spent the first night there before we decided that this was the very best place we have ever stayed! We had never heard of Apalachicola until 3 days before we came. I googled for best beaches to visit where there are not spring breakers, and that's how I found the destination. Then i looked for available places to stay and when we saw the General Lee, we were hooked! The boat was surprisingly spacious, two bathrooms a bonus. Everything essential for our stay was there, with a niicely appointed kitchen and bright airy feel. The very best part was the screened deck AND upper balcony, perfect for endless relaxation and viewing of fishing boats, osprey, pelicans, a myriad of other birds and even parading dolphins traveling up the creek. We loved Apalachicola and the genuine friendliness we encountered everywhere. With a choice of river tours, or driving a short distance to the spectaculat white beaches of St. George Island and the excellent seafood dining available right there within walking distance of the boat, we lacked for nothing to make the perfect family vacation.

The General Lee Experience

If you plan to visit Apalachicola, you likely already know it's a laid back "old Florida" fishing village and are expecting to enjoy peace, quiet, fresh seafood and friendly folks. We found all of the above and were able to enjoy it all aboard the General Lee. Our mornings began and our evenings ended with the gentle motion of the tides swinging us in rhythm with nature. Thanks to Karen, our accommodations were clean, comfortable and very well stocked. Do yourself a favor and talk to her about booking a stay on one of her houseboats. Enhance your visit to Apalach by stepping on your porch and watch a sunrise, a shrimp boat arriving in port or a bald eagle catching a fish. Thank you, Karen! -- Wally and Gini

Houseboat experience

The beautiful Apalachicola River is the setting for this houseboat...It flows by right outside your screened in porch. The living area and kitchen is well equipped and comfortable as are the bedrooms and bathrooms. We loved sitting at the table on the porch in the mornings with our coffee. Since its April, the weather couldn't have been better ! The Wifi was able to handle our needs when we wanted to check in on the rest of the world. Absolutely beautiful area and town. If you like "old" Florida before it became " tourist " Florida, you'll love this place !

A surreal and relaxing experience!

Thanks, Karen, for a perfect setting for an annual reunion among two best friends. Your house boat was a unique and relaxing experience and we enjoyed every minute of it - along with, of course, your quaint town. I believe I've had my fill of oysters for the next SEVERAL months and, in addition, the ones in Apalachicola will be hard to top. So thoughtful of you to lend us your fishing poles. I caught my first fish ever off the top deck of your house boat while enjoying some fine wine and conversation. Thanks for everything! It was perfect.

Our new happy place

Where else can you have a floating vacation with peace and quiet, away from all the hustle and bustle, but right outside your parking lot is the quaint downtown of Apalachicola. The perfect combination. Karen was always available and responsive to our needs. It really was the best kind of getaway for us. We are already planning a return.

Amazing Spot!

The boat was in a great location--within walking distance of just about anyplace in Apalachicola. Sitting out on the screen porch gave us terrific views of birds and dolphins--even a big gator swam by. However, accommodations are really adequate for just three adults, and there were four of us. The second bedroom held a twin bed and a trundle and there was barely enough room to maneuver. It would be fine for kids, but a little tight for the well-over 60 crowd. The kitchen and living room were large and airy with huge picture windows and clerestories where we could watch laughing gulls sitting on the posts. Just remember--it's a boat, not a condo!

Would stay here again!

Karen met us upon arrival and showed us the amenities of the property. Our granddaughter and husband and infant son stayed with us there; there was room for everyone. We especially loved the fact that we could walk to the downtown area with the shops and restaurants. We could just park the car and walk. Yes, the bedrooms were small but perfectly manageable. Sharing the shower presented no problems. Boats going by close to the deck gave us a gentle rocking motion during the day. We would definitely stay there again if the opportunity presents itself.

Cozy and convenient

It was very difficult to leave this houseboat (floating condo) after a week in Apalachicola. It was very cozy, comfortable, and convenient to all the great restaurants, coffee shops, stores, and more in the Market Street area. The only time we needed a car was to explore the surrounding areas of Port St. Joe, St. George Island, Carabelle (all within about a 30 minute drive.) Watching the sun rise from the deck above the screened in porch is unforgettable.

Perfect Couples Retreat

We needed a relaxing break from our crazy lives and the General Lee was perfect. We arrived in town earlier than expected so I reached out to Karen to see if we could check in a couple of hours ahead of schedule. She graciously said yes, met us at the boat and showed us everything we needed to know about. She also lives on the property so shes very convenient if problems arise. It was so relaxing sitting out by the water, waving at boats as they go by. great for beautiful sunrises and we saw a pair of dolphins heading up river one morning. Its easy to walk into town to browse the shops or eat at some wonderful restaurants. Easy quick drive over the bridges to St George if beach combing is your thing. We were so pleased and hope to return again very soon.
